SERVICES
Our Eye Exams focus on the health of the eyes. We screen for cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration. We also determine if there is a need for corrective lenses and if glasses or contact lenses would be the best option for you.
Often vision problems in children can go undetected. Small children will often not realize their vision is blurry, or may not bring it to an adult’s attention. Dr. Nelson sees children of all ages. For children, she assesses the health of the eyes and determines if they would benefit from corrective lenses.
Yearly vision exams are recommended for people with diabetes. It may be too late to save your vision if you wait until you have visual symptoms. We perform dilated exams to assess the health of your eyes.
We help determine which contact lens is best for you based on prescription, work environment and reasons for wanting contact lenses. We have specialty contacts including RGP’s, extended range contacts and colored contacts. For individuals who have never worn contacts, we educate them on contact lens insertion, removal and contact lens care.
At your comprehensive exam we evaluate cataracts and help determine if a cataract consult is necessary. If so, we set you up with an appointment with a local ophthalmologist. After the surgery we assist in post op care and make sure things are healing nicely. We also assist with obtaining new glasses after cataract surgery.
If interested, we may discuss LASIK at your comprehensive exam. At that time we can determine if LASIK is the best option for you. We provide referrals to local ophthalmologists. We also provide follow up care for the year after having LASIK eye surgery.
We diagnose and treat red eyes, including conjunctivitis and contact lens related red eyes. We remove foreign bodies. If you see an increase in flashes or floaters, we dilate your eyes and assess the retina.
We remove both metallic and non-metallic foreign bodies.
Retinal photos are helpful in documenting changes to the back of the eye. We take photos of diabetic changes, macular degeneration and photos of the optic nerve to assess changes related to glaucoma. Retinal photos are helpful when determining if there are changes in “freckles” in the back of the eye.
We check intraocular pressure on everyone who comes to our office. We also assess the nerve appearance to determine if there are changes and if treatment is needed.
We recommend dilated exams to check for Macular degeneration. If there are signs of macular degeneration we may recommend eye vitamins, home Amsler grids, and wearing sunglasses. Depending on the severity, we may recommend a visit to the retinal specialist.
